Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Psalm 20:7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.
Psalm 56:4 In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
Psalm 62:8 Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
Trusting God is a daily choice to rely on His truth, care, and guidance rather than on fear, doubt, or our own limited understanding.
Where is your weak spot? Is there a place that Satan can come in and provoke you to become doubtful or unsure of your faith? This is the time when we need to exercise our trust in God and that will build our faith muscles. The more times we prevail by trusting God and overcoming the devil’s lies the stronger our faith will become.
If you are hearing negative thoughts saying that God is not going to care about this trouble confronting you, or he’s too busy to bother with this little thing, then that is not God’s voice you are hearing. It is most likely your own flesh or the liar. God cares about everything that affects you and you can run to him with all your struggles. Trusting in God is less of a feeling and more of an action on your part.
We cannot listen to the liar and have peace. So, the lesson is to learn to identify the voice and then choose to believe in truth, not lies. The father of lies is still hard at work in our world. He is promoting the same things he always has, lies, destruction and death. Work to tune your mind to hear God’s voice. He is your faithful shepherd, and you can trust him.
In Proverbs 3 we are given some great clues about how to trust God. We do not lean on our own understanding. We choose to believe in his word and his ways and then we can submit to God, and he makes our paths straight. God’s ways are frequently the exact opposite of what the world and our flesh will tell us. That is why some have called God’s kingdom the upside-down kingdom. God’s thoughts are not our thoughts; they are most certainly higher. Isn’t that what we are truly searching for? Someone who knows more than we do. Someone who knows the right answer and cares enough to work for our benefit. God is that Someone! We can trust his plan and his work in our lives every single day and into eternity.
Psalms 20:7 has a lot to say about trusting God too. We don’t live in a world where people use chariots and horses anymore, but the image is powerful. A king of old would put his trust in his chariots and horses to help him win a war. And our present-day leaders would not be much different. They may trust in their modern-day weapons to help them wage war, but as believers we are to trust in the name of our Lord. His is the name above all names!
Psalms 56:4 says if we praise God and his word, then we will begin to trust God more and we will be unafraid. In fact, the scripture says that we can have no fear of mortals! That would include all men, women and children. They are not in charge of our soul, so we need not fear what they might do to us. We need only trust in our loving and patient God; he is the lover of our soul. He did not spare even his own son to rescue us; will he not also be present to help us now?
We are told by the author of Psalm 62 to trust in God at all times. We can pour out our hearts to God because he is our refuge. Pouring out your heart to God seems scary at first. However, I heard someone say that you cannot dent God. You can be truthful and honest with him. He knows everything anyway, why not begin a new day with a new way to pray? Tell God everything that frustrates you, hurts you and confuses you. He is the best listener you will ever find and more than that he has all the power you need to help you move beyond this problem.
When we choose to trust in God, instead of our fears, doubts and insecurities; we will enjoy peace. As believers in God, we can make a choice to praise His Word, reject deceptive thoughts, and bring every struggle to him honestly. As we repeatedly rely on God’s care, protection, and power, our faith grows stronger and we trust him more.
Dear God,
We are still in the process of learning how to trust you. Being close to you is what brings us peace. Help us learn how to silence our fears by focusing on your truth that we find written in the bible. We praise you for your faithfulness to us when we are at our worst as well as our best. You, oh Lord, are our most trustworthy friend and Savior. Whom shall we fear? You are our refuge and ever-present help in times of trouble. We choose to have faith and trust in you when we are facing trials. Forgive us when we go our own way and help us return to you with a open heart and ears that we may discern your guidance. We want to lean not on our own understanding, but on your perfect plan for us. You are the perfect Father God, and in you we trust!
