Matthew 19:26

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Romans 8:31

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

1 John 4:4

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

What are you wrestling with in your life, right now?  Is it the pain of loneliness, depression, anxiety or financial hardship?  The times we are experiencing can cause so much to feel wrong in our lives.  But one of the most important things to learn as a Christian is to not rely on our feelings so much, but more the word of God.  When we are feeling bad, we need truth to combat the falsehoods that the world is slinging our way.  We need hope to stamp out fear.  Fear is weak when held up to the power of hope and God’s word.

Sometimes, we are just waiting for things to change.   Waiting for a breakthrough.

If you can, imagine, that there are two kingdoms operating in the world.  Satan has a program that leads us to fear, despair, anxiety, and worse.  However, God’s kingdom offers something much more powerful than this.  His kingdom operates in hope, truth, wisdom, discernment, and joy, that surpasses our understanding.

We need these powerful scriptures to help us renew our mind when we are slipping into Satan’s kingdom. Matthew 19:26 can handle any multitude of bad feelings and wrong thoughts.  It reads, Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”  Use this scripture to fight back when negativity comes your way.  If your relationships are struggling, nothing is impossible with God.  If someone you love is facing illness, nothing is impossible with God.

When I was a brand-new Christian, I had to learn to drive a forklift.  I was the only office employee at a floorcovering shop where I was working.  When the trucks came to deliver goods, I had to unload the rolls of carpet using the forklift.  I memorized Matthew 19:26 and recited it the whole time I was unloading.  Eventually, I got pretty good at it.   I have always marveled how God enabled me to accomplish this right as I was living through the worst period of my panic disorder.  Apply scripture verses when your mind is slipping out of God’s kingdom.  Your feelings won’t change immediately, however, over time, you will begin to notice the renewing of your mind.  You will start to think automatically about the scriptures instead of listening to that ugly old father of lies. We can really only think about one thing at a time, so in with hope and out with fear!

These three powerful scriptures will carry you through so many anxious and stressful moments.  Spend some time to write them on your index cards so you can carry them with you until you have them memorized.

Dear Lord, help us remember that nothing is impossible with you.   Help us renew our minds to the truth that if you are for us, who can be against us?   Father, you taught us that the Holy Spirit who dwells within us is greater than he who dwells in the world. Help us to be your faithful children and to apply these truths that will allow us to stand strong while we are waiting for a breakthrough to come.  Let us wait upon you Lord, and allow your words to soften the blows we suffer here on earth. Let us be amazed by the power of your word given to us as our shield from the enemies’ fiery darts.   We ask for your peace to envelop our minds as we meditate on your truth and thereby block the lies of our enemy.  Comfort us today, Lord, we truly need you.   In Jesus’s name, Amen.
