John 1:29  The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Revelation 19:9  Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”

Revelation 7:17  For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. ’And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’”

Jesus is called the Lamb of God.  He is the Lamb that was given through God the Father and by Jesus’s own will He became the sacrifice for our sins.  He is our Savior and Redeemer.  The Jewish ritual of sacrificing animals was done away with when Jesus came to earth. This is because Jesus Himself became the Lamb.  No more animal sacrifices will ever be necessary.  Jesus came to make all things new and to take away the sins of the world.   We are the recipients of this treasure of inestimable worth.  Jesus bore the sin of the entire world when He died on the cross.  But this isn’t how the story ends!  He also rose again on Easter Sunday morning proving that He is God and God is with him.  John the disciple recognized Jesus for who He was in our first verse above.

When I hear this name of the Lamb given for our Savior, I am so blessed.  I am so in awe of the gift that was given to me through my Savior’s blood.  It is the reason that this is another one of my favorite names for Jesus.   That a divine, perfect and sinless being would lay down his life for me is almost too much to comprehend.  But this is the very basis for our Christian faith.  This is where we start.  Coming to believe that Jesus died for your sins is where a Christian’s journey begins.  This is where we are born again.

The Book of Revelation states that those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb are blessed.  Blessed is another word for happy.  Born again believers will actually attend the wedding supper with Jesus.  Use your imagination to try and visualize what this will be like!  What an incredible banquet there will be. Do you like food?   This will be a feast beyond your wildest dreams!  There will be food from every country, tongue and tribe.  Not only every country that is present on earth now but every country that has existed throughout eternity!  The variety will be endless and prepared with perfection.  Imagine the joy of the saints that are attending this sumptuous feast.

The most amazing assortment of people ever assembled in the history of mankind will be there with you.  Which people are you looking forward to meeting and conversing with? Every saint since the beginning of time will be in attendance.   Can you imagine meeting everyone from Adam and Eve, the disciples, founding Fathers of the Christian faith and founding fathers of America.  Your very own ancestors.  Distance and recent.  All the loved ones who have passed before you – the entire body of Jesus Christ.

But the most incredible news of all is that we are the Bride of Christ.  This wedding feast is in honor of Jesus Christ marrying His bride, the Church.  All of this is such an amazing promise given to the followers of Jesus.   It takes your breath away.

Jesus is at the beginning of our journey by being the Lamb who was given for our sins that we may be reborn.   Jesus is in the book of Revelation as the Lamb at the center of throne in Heaven.  He is the shepherd who leads us to springs of living water and wipes away every tear from our eyes. Jesus is in the center of our journey as He walks with every moment through our life on Earth.   What a remarkable journey we will embark on with Jesus because he has prepared a new home for those who love Him.   Jesus is at the end of our journey, when he returns to bring His loved ones home.

When we contemplate the future we have in store for us in Heaven, there is no way to be blue here on earth.  Let your cares and troubles fall away and remember that this earth-experience is but a tiny blip on the screen of God’s eternity.   There is joy and peace beyond measure to come, come soon Lord Jesus!

Dear Father God in Heaven, as we experience the mundane sameness of our day-to-day life, help us recall that we will be one day soon be with you in eternity.  Fill us with your Holy Spirit, so that we may have the peace that surpasses all understanding.  Whatever the trials we face here, they do not compare with the glorious days to come.  Allow us to maintain the proper perspective regarding our troubles.  One day you will wipe away all our tears and we will be with you, forever!  Help this good news abide deep in us, so that we will not be easily shaken.  Hold us close to your heart and we will not be frightened.  We anticipate our reunion with you with great joy and hope.   Until you return, we, your children, will hold steadfast to the promises you have given us.

In Jesus’s name we pray,

Amen
